Nissan Altima 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine now available across the Middle East

Following the successful launch of the all-new 2019 Nissan Altima in the Middle East earlier this year, Nissan announces availability of the 2.0L VC-Turbo engine for consumers across the region.

The new VC-Turbo engine by Nissan is the world’s first production-ready variable compression (VC) ratio engine and delivers improved performance and efficiency to add on the Altima’s low and wide exterior look. The car also introduces an elevated luxury experience through its interior design coupled with two new powertrains, and advanced Nissan Intelligent Mobility features.

The VC-Turbo engine is one of the most advanced internal combustion engines ever created, and continuously adjusts its compression ratio to optimize power and efficiency.

With the availability of the new 4-cylinder engine, which replaces the previous generation’s 3.5-liter V6 engine, Altima fans in the Middle East can now enjoy similar performance of the car while providing better fuel efficiency.

Thierry Sabbagh, Managing Director, Nissan Middle East, said, “As part of Nissan’s steadfast commitment on delivering ground-breaking technology to uplift user-experience, we are thrilled to announce availability of the improved VC-Turbo engine in our all-new 2019 Nissan Altima model in the Middle East. Combining the car’s exhilarating style, cutting-edge performance, and affordable luxuriousness, we are confident that the engine advancements made to the existing model will further increase demand for one of the region’s most popular product lines.”

World's first production Variable Compression Turbo engine

With over 20 years in the making, the development of the Altima’s powerplant technology ushers a new era in combustion engine design that continuously calibrates compression ratio to optimize power and fuel efficiency. The VC-Turbo provides enhanced performance that offers a double-digit percentage increase in fuel economy.

In operation, the VC-Turbo engine offers any compression ratio between 8:1 (for high performance) and 14:1 (for high efficiency). The engine delivers 248 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm and 273 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm (premium fuel). The VC-Turbo's specific power output is higher than many competing turbocharged gasoline engines and comes close to the performance of some V6 gasoline engines. The unit's single-scroll turbo ensures immediate accelerator responses on demand.

Compared with the previous-generation Altima's 3.5-liter V6 engine, the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo requires less space in the engine bay. The integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head contributes to the compact engine packaging, improves turbo response and enables the catalytic converter to heat up quickly for lower emissions. The engine also contributes to lower NVH levels.

The VC-Turbo engine uses both multi-point injection and gasoline direct injection to balance efficiency and power in all conditions. Gasoline direct injection improves combustion efficiency and performance and enables the engine to avoid knocking at higher compression ratios.

The 2019 Altima VC-Turbo will be available in SV and SL trim levels and will be priced at AED 110,000 and AED 127,500 respectively in the UAE (excluding tax). Prices per market will vary and will be available through local dealers.

The 2019 Nissan Altima VC-Turbo will be offered in two well-equipped grades:

  • SV Grade comes with 17” Alloy Wheels, 8” Alliance In Vehicle Infotainment, Display Audio (Touchscreen), Voice Recognition, Bluetooth, CarPlay, Wi-Fi, 8-way Power Seats and Sunroof (optional). The Nissan Intelligent Mobility features include Intelligent Cruise Control, Blind Spot Warning, Cross Traffic Alert, Forward Emergency Brake and Predictive Forward Collision Warning
  • SL Grade adds Sunroof, 19” Alloy Wheels, LED Head Lamp with Signature, Leather Seats with Memory, E-Parking Brake (optional). Additional optional Nissan Intelligent Mobility features include Around View Monitor, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, High Beam Assist, Pedestrian Forward Emergency Brake + Forward Collision Warning
