Roads for Life (RFL) President Zeina Kassem asserted that the current situation on Lebanon’s road is tantamount to a massacre against a backdrop of total silence by the state. Calling for the establishment of a crisis unit that would not go against the competences of the caretaker government, she urged for the organization of a joint protest movement involving all associations that deal with traffic safety in cooperation with the National Road Safety Council.

Kassem’s statement coincided with the delivery of certificates to 32 new graduates who completed the ATLS and ATCN training sessions, thanks to the respective partnerships of Fransabankand Bank Audi. The ceremony, held at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) School of Nursing, marked the graduation of participants from the following hospitals: Bellevue Medical Center, Saint George Hospital University Medical Center, Notre Dame University Hospital, Clemenceau Medical Center, Mount Lebanon Hospital, Ain w Zein Hospital, Hôpital Haroun, Al-Zahraa Hospital, Al-Rasoul Al-Aazam Hospital, Hôpital Sacré-Cœur, Bahman Hospital, Hôtel-Dieu de France Hospital, Rafik Hariri University Hospital, the Lebanese University’s Faculty of Medicine, Al-Youssef Medical Center, the Military Hospital and AUBMC.

“Hardly a day goes by without more people ending up dead or wounded on our roads,” Kassem went on saying. “Does the state care for people’s lives or does it have other priorities? What could take precedence over saving people’s lives and upholding the law? People have endured enough and are now sending their children abroad to escape cheap death on Lebanon’s roads.”
