This new innovative program allows retirees and people over 50 years of age, who have no professional activities, to deepen their knowledge, stimulate their intellect and live out new experiences.
Marcel Hinain, Vice-President of AUT for External Relations said: "We are proud to have introduced this innovative concept in Lebanon, the main objective of which is to convey to seniors and retirees, in a university setting, the culture and the knowledge they wish to acquire.” He added: Initially launched in Toulouse in the 1970s, this initiative contributes to the enhancement and strengthening of the role of senior citizens in society.”
The University of the Third Age’s program at AUT for 2017 features weekly lectures on the following topics: Nutrition of the elderly; Art history; The Phoenicians throughout the ages; The conflict of civilizations; The environment and the health of the individual; Cinema and theater; social media; The history of religions; Oenology; Management and finance; Etc. The program also includes monthly trips to touristic sites in order to improve the well-being of the participants.
The conferences will be held at the AUT campus in Fidar and the American Lebanese Language Center (Jounieh). The program is open to seniors and retirees over 50 years of age with no diploma requirements and almost free of charge. The only fee charged is an annual fee of USD 50.
