Alfa celebrates International Girls in ICT Day for the fourth year with the participation of female students from several schools who competed to provide innovative ideas pertaining to the Internet of things

On the occasion of “the International Girls in ICT Day,” an International Telecommunications Union (ITU) initiative aiming to encourage young girls to engage in the ICT sector, Alfa, managed by Orascom Telecom, celebrated it for the fourth year by holding round tables and hosting several activities and a tour in the company in addition to technological innovation competitions for female students from several Lebanese schools.

Alfa CEO and Chairman Marwan Hayek stated: “We at Alfa recognize that the Information and Communication Technology sector (ICT) is influential in the life of every individual in the community. As technology continues to shape the patterns of our lives, we felt it was necessary for us to celebrate this initiative for the fourth year in order to encourage young girls to actively participate in shaping the future through technology, thereby enhancing the participation of women and their active presence in the dynamic and rapidly growing telecommunications sector”. He added: “Women play an active role at Alfa, where they make up 41% of the Alfa family, and we are constantly working to enhance the participation of women in all sectors within the company, especially the technological ones”.

The celebration included round tables during which the female team at Alfa gave detailed presentation of the challenges facing the sector and people who work in it. The celebration also consisted of a tour to the Network Operations and Data centers and ended with a contest in which the female students competed to provide innovative ideas pertaining to the Internet of Things.
