GT USA Wilmington Enters New Partnership with Chiquita Fresh North America

GT USA Wilmington, the US arm of Gulftainer, the world’s largest privately owned independent port operator and logistics company based in the UAE, has commenced a new partnership with Chiquita Fresh North America that will ensure the continued presence of the company at the Port of Wilmington through the next decade.

The relationship has already begun bearing fruit for the company, the port and the wider state of Delaware. The new levels of performance are expected to benefit all parties with increased efficiency, flexibility to meet customer needs and improved time to market.

Peter Richards, Group CEO of Gulftainer, said “Our relationship with Chiquita has got off to an outstanding start. However, we could not have achieved such significant gains in productivity during this transition period without the help of our partners, the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) workforce and our port employees – all working in unison. They have carried out their efforts during these early operations with the utmost professionalism, and we are proud to have built these strong partnerships so early in our tenure at the Port of Wilmington.”

GT USA is expected to continue streamlining its operations. The company announced that it will soon take delivery of new cargo-handling equipment as part of its modernisation and improvement programme at the port. The eco-friendly electric equipment will not only enhance operational capabilities at the terminal but also reinforce GT’s commitment to being conscious of its impact on the environment and the community in line with its corporate values.

Being phased in throughout 2019, this equipment, along with civil works improvements, forms part of the US$100 million investment in Port of Wilmington that is poised to significantly strengthen its operational efficiency.
