The Smart Dubai Office and the University of Dubai have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), to bolster their partnership in the field of exchanging knowledge, expertise and experience and streamlining their channels of communication.

The MoU was signed by H.E. Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of Smart Dubai Office, and Dr. Essa Al Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai.

Whereas Smart Dubai Office is concerned with facilitating smart transformation in Dubai and applying the law regulating the dissemination and exchange of data through Dubai Data Establishment; and whereas its subsidiary Smart Dubai Government Establishment (SDG) is concerned with providing smart transformation supporting technological services through designing and managing these services, which include enablement services, connected services and shared apps and infrastructures; and whereas the University of Dubai is a leading educational and academic foundation in the UAE with a long experience in holding workshops, the two parties have agreed to collaborate in several areas:

Areas of collaboration

  • The University of Dubai will be able to view the data available at Smart Dubai Office with the aim of conducting joint research and studies.
  • The University of Dubai will hold introductory and training workshops for the employees of government entities, conduct field trials and throw light on the smart devices used as an applied pattern.
  • The University of Dubai will develop academic and training programmes in the field of smart transformation and related fields.
  • The University of Dubai and SDG will collaborate to design and hold joint activities aimed at increasing and conveying knowledge in the society by attracting smart city-dedicated global conferences into Dubai

Expressing her happiness about signing the MoU, Bin Bishr said: "Based on Smart Dubai Office's strategy, whose priorities include improving smart skills as a key factor for building an enabling environment that helps fulfill our vision, we are keen on qualifying and training our staff, keeping them abreast of the scientific breakthroughs that serve smart transformation areas and familiarizing them with the latest innovations."

She added: "We are proud to collaborate with the University of Dubai to keep pace with creative technology and techniques and apply the world's best practices and standards for developing the skills of our establishment's leaders and employees, thereby prompting them to acquire more skills and tools that enable them to build the smart city Dubai towards the ultimate goal of making people happy in fulfillment of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai."

It was announced late last year that the legislative structure for transforming Dubai into the smartest city in the world had already been completed. The Smart Dubai Office's initiative is based on collaborating with partners from both the government and private sectors to empower, deliver and promote an efficient, seamless, safe and impactful city experience for residents and visitors with the aim of creating a new and unique pattern for developing and managing cities round the world.

Smart Dubai has been keen on basing its strategy on H.H Sheikh Mohammed's vision, which puts people's happiness on top of its priorities to reflect the highest indicators of success, considering that happy people contribute more significantly to building the cities they live in. Hence, Smart Dubai has designed all its initiatives to achieve as much happiness for its inhabitants as possible.
