Ministry of Climate Change and Environment to sponsor project of Carbon Ambassadors Programme

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment will sponsor the Sustainable Agriculture Container, a project developed by the second batch of the Carbon Ambassadors Programme. The project aims to transform used service containers into sustainable agricultural containers, to spread environmental awareness, and encourage people to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle. DEWA launched the second batch of the Carbon Ambassadors Programme in October 2015, as per the United Nations Development Programme’s criteria, with support from the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (Dubai Carbon).

The programme has theory and practical sessions with 3 learning modules that vary between e-learning courses and in-class lectures. These modules include Prince2 (Project Management), Green House Gas (GHG) Accounting Training, and Energy Saving Company (ESCO) Training. In addition to these modules, DEWA also provides a range of opportunities to delegates of the program, enabling them to participate in global conferences, and workshops on sustainability such as COP21 in Paris, France, the IRENA Assembly, and Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

The practical aspect of the programme consists of implementing turn-key projects, in partnership with a number of government and private entities. The project aims to retrofit service containers, into sustainably functioning containers. The delegates have been assigned teams, under the supervision of partners. A panel of judges will evaluate the projects, and select the best three teams.
