Your ride just got even more Uber cool! Beirut – LEBANON, 12 Nov 2014: Hot on the heels of the UberBLACK Beirut launch just a few months ago, residents and tourists now have another, hip and stylish alternative in daily commuting. Uber, the international smartphone app that seamlessly connects riders with a private driver, officially launches uberX in the city today.

To celebrate the launch, Uber is inviting Beirut is for FREE uberX rides in Beirut from November 13 to 16 and arrive in their destination in a cool way.

uberX promises to deliver safe, convenient, reliable and more affordable transport in Beirut. Whether it’s time to make a move after a night at The O1ne or being in need of a ride after a late night with friends on Mar Mikhael Street, Beirut is now have a new option to head home – or maybe rock-up to that all-night party – safely and conveniently with uberX.

uberX has now completed a 2-month pilot phase with app-using riders in Beirut trialing the service and providing valuable feedback and insights before today’s full launch. uberX makes it even easier to commute across the city during times when traffic is at a peak and whenever and wherever there are limited parking options.

We’re proud to make transport safer and even more accessible for Beirut is with the addition of uberX to our Uber platform.  It is especially useful when you would rather leave your car at home and be driven during traffic, or are just looking for a safe alternative to get home after a night out. And because uberX is more affordable than many of the existing options, it’s easy on the pocket even for college students.”

Sebastien continued: “We’ve been testing the service for a bit more than a couple of months now, and the response has been incredible. The community is really loving how safe and easy it is to use the technology and the drivers are so excited about the business it is bringing in for them.”

uberX is one of Uber’s products that connects riders with licensed drivers by partnering with the existing supply of transportation providers in Beirut. Any person who needs a ride should simply download the free Uber app at uber.com/app onto their smartphone (iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry) or sign up at uber.com/goto request a private-hire car at an affordable price.

The process is very simple and is completed in a matter of minutes. When a passenger requests a car, the driver name and license plate number shows up on the screen as well the driver’s location on the app map. Riders can share their estimated time of arrival and route with family as well, all through the technology built into the app. All payments are done via the riders’ credit cards – there’s even an option to split the bill between multiple Uber riders – making the experience even more seamless.

In addition to providing more choice for consumers, Uber also aims to help transportation providers grow their business by making drivers’ time more efficient.

Uber is already present in over 200 cities in 45 countries, including Beirut.

  1. Enter the promo code "FREEWEEKBEY"  in the promotions tab of your app to unlock your FREE rides
  2. Take FREE rides between 1am on Thursday (11/13) through 11:59pm on Sunday (11/16)
  3. Maximum of 10 rides per user. Each ride is covered up to $20
  4. If the total fare of your "free" trip exceeds $20, the credit card on file will be charged with the difference
  5. Free rides valid on "uberX" trips only so make sure you select the uberX view on the bottom of your map
