Oman Ministry of Tourism and Oman Air to reveal new tie-ups during roadshow & workshops in the UAE

The Sultanate recorded over 387,000 GCC visitors  for H1 2014

October 25, 2014 - The Oman Ministry of Tourism organized a road show and workshops in the UAE, in cooperation with its trade partners from Oman. The move aimed at reinforcing the joint venture between the Ministry and Oman Air and promoting the Sultanate as the region’s leading tourist destination. Aside from presentations by both parties that were designed to give a deeper insight about tourism infrastructure and facilities along with attractive offers, several agreements with UAE-based hotels and travel agencies were signed during the event. The event complimented Oman’s tourism sector which is aiming to record one of the strongest global growth rate in the coming year.

The road show and workshops came in line with the recent industry reports indicating a growth in regional tourism in Oman. According to the figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information, over 1,004,837 international tourists visited the country until June 2014 of which 387,103 were from the GCC--the highest number of tourists from the region to date, registering a growth of 10.8 per cent in comparison to the same period for 2013. The government of Oman has undertaken proactive measures to ensure growth of travel and tourism sector with plans to increase number of international airports along with regional and international chains of hotels and resorts in addition to the development of road, rail and maritime sectors.

Salim Al Mamari, Director general of tourism promotion, Oman Ministry of Tourism, said: “Because of its diverse geographical features, Oman is an all-year-round tourism destination, making it perfect for GCC tourists to take short-break vacations. Aside from excellent tourism infrastructure and exceptional hospitality sector, the country boasts of world-class airports offering swift connectivity to several cities in the region. We organized the road show and workshops in the UAE aiming to reach out to the maximum number of people to further promote Oman as a popular tourist destination for Emaratis. Aside from offering attractive travel package with our partner Oman Air, we also signed agreements with local travel agents to provide cost-effective yet wholesome tourist packages to potential visitors.”
