LibanPost honors 6 pioneering Lebanese women in collaboration with the American University of Beirut (AUB) and launches a stamp in recognition of their achievements

In collaboration with the American University of Beirut (AUB) and its Strategic Partnerships Initiative, LibanPost organized the “Women in power” event to honor 6 pioneering Lebanese women in their respective fields.

The event also witnessed the launching of the first-issue of the stamp that commemorate these “first timers” and their achievements, by LibanPost and the Ministry of Telecommunications.

During the ceremony held at the American University of Beirut AUB, H.E. Minister of Women’s Affairs Jean Ogassapian stated that “Lebanese woman should actively take part in decision-making across all institutions” and pointed out “the urgency to overcome obstacles preventing women from developing their capabilities and advance in the society”.

The Lebanese women honored were Mrs. Myrna Al Boustany, the first Lebanese woman to become a member of the Parliament; Mrs. Leila el-Solh Hamadeh and Mrs. Wafaa El Dika Hamza, Lebanon's first female ministers; Mrs. Nina Trad, the first woman to become a lawyer; Mrs. Adma Ilyas Abu Shadid, the first woman to receive a medical degree from AUB in 1931; and Mrs. Saniyyah Zaytoun, first woman engineer in Lebanon to join the Syndicate in 1945.

Present at the event beside Mr. Jean Ogassapian, Minister of Women’s Affairs, were Mr. Khalil Daoud, LibanPost's Chairman and Managing Director, Dr. Fadlo R. Khuri, President of the American University of Beirut, as well as influential women from the media, business, academic, cultural and artistic spheres, and stamp collectors.
