Our hair is our calling card and it says a lot about who we are. Optimal hair condition depends on optimum matrix cell division.”

Pure stress for the scalp
The skin on the scalp is very delicate. Generally, it is also exposed to external influences such as environmental pollution, dust and hot air from hairdryers without any protection. However, other factors such as stress, lack of sleep and an unbalanced diet can also have a negative impact on the scalp’s condition. Stefanie Conzelmann: “Stress produces free radicals which activate the body’s natural defense mechanisms. The immune system produces inflammation-promoting proteins such as cytokines to deal with the problem.“
Inflammation is an immune response. “However, when our stress level remains high over a long period of time and cytokines constantly bombard the cells, micro-inflammation is then seen as one of the leading factors causing the most common scalp problems. This finally has also a direct impact on the hair quality," said Stefanie Conzelmann.
Micro-inflammation isn’t a micro-problem
“Micro-inflammation can cause a variety of symptoms such as severe itchiness and increased dryness. The symptoms vary depending on the extent of the micro-inflammation and the person’s predisposition to it,“ remarked Stefanie Conzelmann. “Inflammation also causes the hair follicles to diminish in size. Collagen is then deposited in the follicle, which in extreme cases can completely destroy the hair follicle resulting in hair loss and thinning hair.”
The basis for a healthy scalp has now been found
Eucerin® research teams conducted intensive research and were able to discover an active ingredient that interrupts the inflammatory cycle and creates the optimum conditions for the healthy development of the hair fiber. “Of all the substances that we tested, Licochalcone A, a natural extract from the Chinese liquorice root, demonstrated the strongest anti-inflammatory effect. Targeted in-vitro studies confirm that Licochalcone A inhibits oxidative reactions the tissue and effectively reduces the synthesis of anti-inflammatory proteins such as cytokines, leukotrienes and prostaglandins.
Based on these findings, Eucerin® DermoCapillaire developed a new generation of scalp and hair care products that solve scalp and hair problems in a two-step process.
