During the event, DEWA presented its efforts in sustainability to some of the most important government officials in the Arab World, in addition to important media personalities, a number of political and academic leaders, and 2,000 Arab and non-Arab journalists.

DEWA also highlighted its three smart initiatives, which include Shams Dubai, to install photovoltaic panels on rooftops to generate solar power, Smart Applications and Meters, and the Green Charger to build the infrastructure and charging stations for electric vehicles.

“We are glad to be the Sustainable Partner to the AMF, which has become a platform to discuss the development of the current and future roles played by the media. It has also become a platform to gather journalists, who have become partners through our initiatives and programmes to enhance environmental sustainability, and encourage members of the community to adopt practices that contribute to the rationalising of electricity and water, to ensure the sustainability of our natural resources for us, and for generations to come,” said Al Tayer.

“Digital and social media has a large influence on today’s world. There is a vital need to make use of this platform today more than ever before. The media has the potential to enhance a culture of conservation and the rational use of water and energy by communicating the need to preserve and promote renewable energy resources. DEWA cooperates with a host of different media agencies to promote a culture of innovation and highlight DEWA’s initiatives launched to protect the environment. This supports DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility, and the Dubai Plan 2021 to make the Emirate sustainable with its resources, and make the environment clean, healthy, and sustainable,” added Al Tayer.

“DEWA’s CSR initiatives have always been an integral part of its strategy to serve the public good. DEWA is not only involved in the provision of energy services and water, but also makes every effort, through community-oriented programmes, to make society happier and promote the growth and prosperity of Dubai and the UAE,” Al Tayer continued.

AMF 2016 is the largest event in Arab media, and creates a platform to facilitate dialogue and discussions about the issues faced by media in the region and around the world. The forum addresses the future of media, challenges faced by media, and develops solutions to overcome these challenges. The forum also encourages UAE-based university and college students of media to take part in workshops, with support by young Emirati volunteers from different universities and colleges. The Organising Committee of the AMF has announced DEWA’s participation as Sustainability Partner in the 15th AMF. This will further enhance relations between DEWA and Dubai Press Club (DPC), the organisers of AMF. DEWA’s participation reflects its appreciation for the media, and the role it plays to raise awareness about certain issues that may affect people’s daily lives, and the rational use of energy and water.
