To this end, Boecker® has prepared a food safety checklist allowing the inspector to monitor the hygienic status of restaurants and food establishments based on high standards of food safety. A Certificate will be awarded solely by the Municipality to restaurants who have met the food safety criteria presented by Boecker®, who will be in charge of supervising and monitoring the implementation   of this this project.

Speaking of this breakthrough, Mayor Antoine Chakhtoura noted: “The Municipality of Dekwaneh has prioritized and given a lot of importance for food safety, in light of the increasing chaos and neglect witnessed in this sector, which reflects in a bad way on the public health and the environment in our district. We strive as a socioeconomic development institution, with the competent institutions and the state entities to control and hold accountable all ill-performing or neglectful outlets, which may harm and cause damage to the health of our children and our families. To this end, we have asked Boecker® to cooperate with us, where we will follow up the progress made on ground with the company, thus joining hands for a better and a healthier society.”

Commenting on this initiative, Mr. Michel Bayoud, CEO of Boecker® stated:  “The Dekwaneh authorities are the first municipal entity in Lebanon, to adopt a world-class qualification system for food establishments. We are highly confident that this new system will succeed, because it is simple and effective and based on the proactivity and cooperation between the municipality and the food establishment owners.  Our role here is to advise the municipality, where our mission is to make sure that the qualification system is well implemented, well controlled and well deployed.”

This initiative by the Dekwaneh Municipality was also endorsed by Baldati, a NGO working on the sustainable development of Lebanese communities.
